What Is Epoxy Resin?
The epoxy resin is considered a high-performance thermosetting resin and determining silicon rubber price (ยางซิลิโคน ราคา which is the term in Thai). It is a material developed by chemical bonds between epoxy radicals (hence the name of the resin). When adding a catalyst agent (the ones commercially called “hardeners”), it becomes a thermoset resin through the polymerization process.
When catalysts are added, they act with the resin irreversibly. After the curing process, it is not possible to reshape the material (unlike acrylic resin, for example). All homogeneous isotropic materials, which is the case for this resin, have these mechanical characteristics – which can be considered limited.
However, mixing components can result in exciting materials. In epoxy resin, there are some varieties of the material (as will be discussed later).
Epoxy is a material that can be used in different ways, and its use has become increasingly widespread in the most varied markets. Some of its uses are:
- Lamination resins
- Flooring
- Coating
- Stickers
- Sealants
- Paints
- Varnishes
And among these groups of utilities, several issues can be explored.
It has a low viscosity, is easily worked, but when mixed with the hardeners, it starts to change from liquid to gel state and then to solid-state. It is possible to build a thick layer with this substance, which can be used as molds and parts.
Its aspect is diverse, and it can become a transparent, opaque, colored, textured material, and so on. But, except when there is a requirement for something matte, usually gloss is a desired feature of this material.
